One of the four Post-Yawning theological empires — and structurally the odd one out. Where the Catholic and Orthodox blocs are described as Empires (a single hierarchy, church-as-state), the Protestant bloc formed as a defensive confederacy — Northern European Protestant states banding together for mutual protection rather than consolidating under one religious hierarchy. Protestantism's own lack of a single central authority (no equivalent to a Pope or Patriarch) makes an "Empire" framing a poor fit; "confederacy" implies something looser: allied, not unified.
